In today’s post, I’ve opted to address what is becoming an increasingly common question: “What paint colors match American Clay?” Similarly, some people call wanting to know if there’s an American Clay color similar to the existing paint color on their walls. In this entry, I’ll identify a similar or matching color for each of our standards.
I’m not sure I realized how time-consuming it would be when I decided to take on this project. I’ve spent the better part of 2 days poring over clay tiles and paint swatches – My head’s starting to spin a bit. I opted to match our colors to Benjamin Moore, because it is the most popularly requested brand when people contact me for color matches. I’m surprised I was able to find a near-match for all of them from one paint brand. For these matches to be truly accurate, I could have sourced colors from all of my fan decks (and I have more than 20 on-hand), but I wanted to keep things as simple as possible. Before I get started with the list, there are a few things worth noting…
These colors are not exact matches. Because of the nature of American Clay, it is common for colors to deviate slightly over time. Changes in the color of the plaster, in pigments, and the way the plaster was applied are just a few of the factors that can affect a color. Always double-check that a paint color reference is actually similar to the clay color before selecting it for use in a space. These references are meant to be used as a starting point when you’re searching for a paint color.
Also of note, these colors were only matched to Loma samples. Colors in Marittimo, Porcelina, and Enjarre will look different, and may not match the colors listed below.
