This is an intensive and comprehensive 3 day training that has been compressed into 2 very full days. It is designed to give professionals the technical knowledge and hands on experience to complete any American Clay job with confidence. Intended for graduates of the one day applicator training, this in depth workshop is a requirement for any professional looking to become a certified American Clay applicator listed on the American Clay website, a great resource for clients and designers seeking installation of clay on their projects.
Participants will have their own work areas with ample walls to experiment with each of the 4 different earth plasters, and the many hybrid versions we can create. You will learn about the different application techniques including sanded primer, mud glue, add mix and the new Plaster Plus. Attention will be give to the many new finishing ideas possible with the addition of American Clay’s lime putty, either for gauging or lime washing. All of the 43 color pigments will be available for use and experimentation; basic color theory will be introduced to give participants a working knowledge of how to mix their own custom colors and tints.
Detailed attention will be given to proper substrate preparation, repair of walls, how to troubleshoot and solve application problems, and how to select the right materials for the job. The unique properties of American Clay will be reviewed including the LEEDS points available by installing clay on a job. These qualities will be discussed from both an informational point of view as well as how they can help you sell your jobs and finishes to your customers. Discussion of marketing, pricing, and product considerations for different jobs and clients will be included.
Classes will be from 8 AM until 6 PM each day. Your work will be carefully reviewed by your instructor, Rick Kantor, to help you achieve the finest finishes possible, including seamless repair techniques. Time will be allowed for experimentation with color, plaster blends, multicolor plaster finishes and finishing coats such as wax, sealers and soaps. A class certificate of completion will be awarded, discount on all products purchased and a detailed training manual for reference.

Your instructor, Rick Kantor, is a highly experienced and accredited American Clay applicator and instructor, with over 2 decades of experience in wall finishes, including a New York City faux finishing company. A fine artist with a BFA in painting, Rick also brings an extensive background of entrepreneurship and product marketing and sales to assist students interested in the business of clay wall finishes. Creativity and humor are highly prized in his classes.
