Find a workshop

We hit the ground running in this completely hands-on workshop where you will learn, apply and experiment with all of the tools, pigments, plasters, additives, waxes and finishes in the Terrasanti studio and showroom.  Completion of the One-Day Application class is required to ensure working knowledge of the materials. You will have your own workspace walls as well as sample boards you may complete to take home with you. You will be able to take advantage of the many inventive finishes on showcase in the 2000 square foot Terrasanti showroom and studio, as well as hundreds of custom samples on display.

With the increasing product offerings of American Clay, including their new lime putty, lime washes and Plaster Plus additives, it has never been more fun or creative to combine materials to create new and unique finishes to suit each job.  As a finishing material with texture and dimensionality, the possibilities for creative and artistic use of the many products are endless.  Your instructor, Rick Kantor, has a BFA in Fine Art and a lifetime of artmaking, in addition to 20 plus years of applying his artistry to walls. His passion and creativity make this class come to life and will inspire your own creativity in ways you didn’t realize you possessed.

We will practice with custom color matches, color blending, and layering; stenciling, reverse stenciling, embedded stenciling and graphic treatments using tape and other adhesive products; waxes, lime washing, soap finishes and sealers will be discussed and applied.

The four different earth plasters can also be intermixed to create hybrid effects.  We can compound the variations by adding Lime Putty to each of these.  Micas, straws, natural herbs and other objects may be added in as well.  We will create various stone and cement look-alike finishes using plaster to create the cool feel and look of travertine, marble, cement and other stones.

Class Fee is $199.  plus a $20. material fee. All tools and materials are provided.

9 AM to 5PM. Doors open early for coffee, breakfast snacks and wall gazing in the showroom.  Materials are available for purchase, and students receive a 10% discount at class. Lunch is typically 45 minutes mid-day, with good eateries in walking distance.  Inexpensive motels available upon request.

Your instructor, Rick Kantor, is a highly experienced and accredited American Clay applicator and instructor, with over 2 decades of experience in wall finishes, including a New York City faux finishing company.  A fine artist with a BFA in painting, Rick also brings an extensive background of entrepreneurship and product marketing and sales to assist students interested in the business of clay wall finishes. Creativity and humor are highly prized in his classes.
